Watermelon-Lime Slushies (sugar-free)
Ali Segersten
We’ve had a few hot days here in the Pacific Northwest lately! My children and I came up with this super simple slushie recipe using fresh watermelon—and they insisted I share it with you so you can make it too. Once you try this version, I hope you’re inspired to experiment with other types of fresh fruit as well. It’s the perfect, refreshing treat for a warm summer afternoon.
This recipe would be suitable to enjoy during our Elimination Diet. If you haven't seen our new book.....then check it out today. I created plenty of super satisfying, tasty recipes that are gluten, dairy, egg, corn, soy, nut, nightshade, yeast, and citrus-free! Many of the recipes are grain-free and low-histamine as well.
Health Benefits of This Recipe:
Watermelon
- Watermelon is about 92% water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits you can eat—perfect for replenishing on hot days.
- It’s rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that gives watermelon its red color and may help protect the skin from UV damage.
- Watermelon also contains citrulline, an amino acid that supports blood flow and may reduce post-exercise muscle soreness.
Lime
- Lime juice is a natural source of vitamin C, supporting collagen production, immune defense, and adrenal health.
- The citrusy acidity also enhances flavor without added sugar, making it ideal for refreshing drinks and slushies.
Mint
- Mint has cooling properties that can help soothe digestion and calm the nervous system—a perfect pairing for hot weather and sweet treats.
- The essential oils in mint, particularly menthol, offer mild antimicrobial effects and contribute to that fresh, clean flavor.
